Jenna Countryman Mauro started playing the flute at the age of 9. A Bay Area native, she is an alumnus of the Berkeley Youth Orchestra and the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra, as well as the Jacksonville Symphony Youth Orchestra in Jacksonville, Florida. She won the Berkeley Youth Orchestra concerto competition at the age of 13, and the Jacksonville Symphony Youth Orchestra concerto competition at the age of 18. Jenna holds a bachelor's degree of music in flute performance from Florida State University, where she studied with Professor Eva Amsler, and she has completed all coursework for a master's degree of music in flute performance from San Francisco State University, where she studied with Linda Lukas. Her previous flute teachers include Rhonda Cassano, Patrice Hambelton, and Kathy Meyer.
Jenna is extremely experienced in solo, small ensemble, band, and orchestral playing. She also has experience in jazz, afro cuban, and early music. She has training in flute pedagogy, and has been teaching private flute lessons to all levels and ages since 2008. She has experience coaching students for auditions of all types, and a number of her students have been or are currently students at Ruth Asawa School of the Arts in San Francisco. Jenna's teaching philosophy acknowledges that every student is different, and different learning styles benefit from different teaching techniques. She has a wide array of exercises to choose from and uses student feedback to gauge understanding of concepts and make sure students know how to utilize exercises and concepts during home practice.
