Yunyi Ji

Chinese-American pianist Yunyi Ji strives to challenge the limits of musical communication as both an impassioned soloist and collaborator. Yunyi was born in Beijing, China and immigrated with family to the San Francisco Bay Area at the age of five.

Yunyi studied piano with Rebecca Penneys through the Bachelor of Music program at the Eastman School of Music and is currently pursuing a Master's in Piano Performance under the studio of Jon Nakamatsu at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. As a soloist, Yunyiperformed with the Eastman Philharmonic under the direction of Neil Varon as a prizewinner of the Eastman Concerto Competition; as a collaborator, Yunyi has studied with pianists Beryl Garver and Tim Bach, and worked under the voice studios of Anthony Dean Griffey and Jan Opalach.

In addition to playing piano, Yunyi also enjoys collecting minerals, petting cats, and is a die-hard harpsichord enthusiast.
